Movie Trailer: Avatar (take 2)

Did you see the first Avatar trailer?

Shit, wasn’t it?

I mean, to read the synopsis, you’d think James Cameron‘s ultra-hyped science fiction opus was going to be the best thing since Ellen Ripley climbed into a cargo loader exosuit and squared off against one big Alien momma; to watch the first trailer, you’d think it was an attempt by Pixar to knock Cars off the top of the “Our Worst Films” list.

With the previous marketing team presumably staked out and left for the facehuggers, trailer number two rolls around and attempts to set the record straight.

For me, they’ve certainly gone some way towards rekindling my excitement about the film. It’s majestic, without being over-the-top, and hints at both the film’s story and level of action without ramming either down your throat.

Moreover, this will be Sam Worthington‘s chance to show us what he’s capable of without having a shameless screen-hog barking his performance to pieces.

What do you think?

Movie Trailer: Green Zone

<a href="http://video.msn.com/?mkt=en-GB&#038;from=sp&#038;vid=503152ef-8135-4724-b41a-e7a697035c6c" target="_new" title="EXCLUSIVE: Green Zone - Trailer">Video: EXCLUSIVE: Green Zone &#8211; Trailer</a>

Here’s the new trailer for Green Zone, the forthcoming Paul Greengrass thriller set during the Iraq war before the infamous troop ‘surge’.

The film stars Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear, and is named for – and based within – a small, insulated pocket of Baghdad, a supposed oasis of calm in a country otherwise engulfed in chaos.

With Bourne Supremacy/Ultimatum director Greengrass at the helm, double-dealing and political intrigue is a given, with a healthy dose of heavy ordinance, gun battling and skin-of-the-teeth death defiance thrown in for good measure.

Video Spotlight: Stop Motion Flintstones

This exceptionally-crafted piece of stop motion animation, made as part of a feature-length episode of classic Hanna-Barbera favourite The Flintstones, sees Fred indulge in a Lebowski-esque flight of fancy.

The clip was made for a Cartoon Network special entitled “Flintstones: On the Rocks” in 2001. The company responsible is LA-based animation specialists Screen Novelties.

Film Poster: Sherlock Holmes

A new poster for Guy Ritchie‘s forthcoming Sherlock Holmes has just been released, giving us tantalising look at what to expect when it comes out on Christmas Day.

The film stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, but what I want to see more than anything else is for Mark Strong – who plays the film’s main baddie – to finally get the chance to show his centre-stage potential. This film has the potential to be great, if only Ritchie can resist the pointless moments of self-congratulation that have spoiled recent efforts such as RocknRolla

Silent Film: Drunkest Guy Ever

CCTV footage of some drunken guy staggering around a supermarket and causing chaos, set to the music (and style) of a black and white silent film. Not sure if the original is genuine footage or a set-up, but it’s funny either way.

Find your new favourite band with Music-Map

More often than not, the success of a website will hinge on its apparent simplicity, no matter how complex the engine that drives it.

Case in point, the frankly incredible Music-Map, a website which will take a band or musical artist and return a cloud of associated and similar acts. From there, you can either start over with a new band, or click on one of the orbiting options in order to follow the links between, say, Bob Marley and Mindless Self Indulgence.

Created as part of the Gnod artificial intelligence project by Marek Gibney, the system has already been adapted to map films, books and even people.
